Sofitel Cologne am Dom

Fact Sheet

Opening date :               September, 19th 2002

Location:                     Right in the heart of the old city of Cologne, between the cathedral and the Rhine, opposite the Philharmonic and the famous museums of the cultural metropolis, the hotel is only a few minutes from the banking and business district, from the exhibition centre, and from the central station.

General Manager:            Alexander von Keller Szepesi

Renovation: The engineering firm Kremer + Scheib Ingenieure GmbH, Remscheid, was responsible for renovating all the 207 rooms, for redesigning the inner courtyard and for setting up the sauna / wellness and fitness facilities. The work was carried out without any interruption to the hotel's business: all rooms, public areas, and conference rooms are now fully air-conditioned and a new restaurant concept has been set up with "La Brasserie," "Tapas Bar," "Grand Habana Lounge" and "Dom Pub" ("Cathedral Pub").

Interior designer: Patrick Dumont and Annick Delvigne (Charleroi-Belgium), have designed modern rooms using woods from Wengé, light maple, and high-quality textiles. A special attention has been made to the ergonomically impressive rooms with their modern lines, pleasant lighting, and well-appointed workstations.

Uniforms:                     The French fashion designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac designed staff uniforms. He created a style that reflects the spirit of contemporary French fashion, replacing buttons with zippers and for the receptionists he designed asymmetrical dresses complemented by a scarf. Loyal to his original use of fabrics, Jean-Charles de Castelbajac has chosen a modern interpretation of the dark grey striped outfits of city businessmen.
